crochet booties

so i'm atempting to make another hand-made gift for my cousin who's having a baby. it's been a slow process for such a small item. i can't seam to get the stitch count in each row right. sometimes there's not enough and sometimes there's too much. how does that happen? all i know is that i'm going to have a lot of booties left over just to make the perfect pair!



the pattern is from crochet today magazine. it's a great beginner project. i'm crossing my fingers it will be done soon.
